Each collar is made from strong polypropylene webbing wrapped in fabric and machine stitched. All loops, buckles and chain are chrome plated with great load bearing characteristics.
Martingale collars, also called no-slip or limited-slip collars, provide more control than a typical flat collar to prevent dogs from backing or slipping out. They look like a flat collar, but about a third of their length is a smaller loop of fabric or metal chain ,with a D-ring attached.
They are designed to tighten when a dog pulls on the leash, providing gentle control and preventing the dog from slipping out of the collar.
Tension on the leash causes the small chain to tighten, which in turn pulls the larger fabric loop tighter—but not too tight! Martingale collars are adjustable and shouldn’t tighten past the width of the dog’s neck. They offer comfortable security without harming your dog.
Dogs with narrow heads, like Greyhounds, Whippets, Salukis, and other sighthounds, can benefit from a martingale collar. These dogs can easily slip out of regular collars, making martingale collars a safer option.
Sizing a collar for a bigger dog can be challenging, but our large martingale should work well for most large breeds. We can however make to order. For your dog’s safety and comfort, a martingale collar needs to be fitted correctly. It should tighten just enough to prevent the dog from slipping out, but not so much that it causes discomfort or restricts breathing.
